Lots of people want to study business because they want to start or create their own business. Being an entrepreneur is (seen as) sexy. Building a successful business is one of the fastest ways to building wealth.
However, if you want to go in to business, you shouldn’t study business. Studying business will make you a mediocre manager at best and not a business leader. It’s not going to be helpful in your business career.

Many of the successful entrepreneurs were all “Product Managers”, or “Builders” rather than business people. They focused on creating a successful product that solved problems for people. That was the hard part.
- Business is common sense. It’s not the most important thing that makes people successful. The most important thing is what did they build?
- It’s much better to learn business from experience rather than textbooks or in the classroom. You need to learn from repeatedly trying new things and experimenting.
- If you want to be successful in business you need to build amazing products. 1) The product is what you are selling, and 2) Your company is a product and set of systems. How does it all work together?
Instead you should learn how to make and build things. Engineering, computer skills are much more important if you want to build a business.
You can also see this in many fields. Lady Gaga and Eminem are the same, their product is their music, and also they are the product – their image and personal brand. Stephen King writes great books which is a product.
It’s much more important to focus on building amazing products and services.
