The potential for AI has fascinated me for a long time. In 2016 I studied a Anthony Ng’s coursera course on deep learning. I also remember meeting Ray Kurzweil and hearing him speak at a conference in Beijing.
Ever since Chatgpt first came out, I have spent a considerable amount of time learning about the capabilities in artificial intelligence. The potential of this technology has blown my mind. I went fairly deep on a number of technologies, before taking a break.
What is the singularity? My belief is that the singularity is likely to be not just a technological singularity in one domain, but in every domain. It is also a biological, spiritual, physical, chemical, etc., singularity. Most major religion emphasises the concept of oneness. Singularity will be a moment where we will all surrender and become one.
Human Vs Machines
The battle where we had deep blue and alpha go beating the best mind in the world, makes many people consider that it is inevitable that machines will become “smarter” than us.
I don’t think this battle between humans and machines is framed properly. It is not a battle of humans vs machines. How much guidance from humans went into the creation of alpha go? Even when they are playing, there was a human player there who moved the pieces. For the human player, how much technology did he use in training? Did he use a computer when he was practicing and did he have practice games against a computer? The human player is undoubtedly better than a human player 100 years ago because of this.
A humans raw brain power can’t be matched by a computers raw compute power, but that is not the battle of the future. The battle of the future is humans+computer Vs humans+computer. We already carry phones around with us everywhere we go, we are already cyborgs.
This is not an artificial intelligence revolution, but an overall intelligence revolution. This is a time for us to get smarter and improve our own intelligence, so that we can grow in all these domains.
I’m planning to work on tools that translates this artificial intelligence into natural intelligence, and I’m planning to work on creating content about this technology.
When we reach the next stage of this revolution and convert this artificial intelligence into natural intelligence, we are going to be in a really exciting and fast growth stage.
We attempted making a chatbot for international students to apply to universities in 2017. The results were 85% OK, but we couldn’t get to 100% and so scrapped the project. The underlying technology wasn’t there.
We’ve now been building an updated chatbot which will go live on China Admissions and it will be published in the next week.
I will also share more about the tools we are learning and look forward to sharing about a tool that can be used for natural learning and create it into a learning curriculum.
