Default to Grattitude

Default to Grattitude

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.

– A. Einstein

We live in an individualistic culture, and it can be tempting to feel entitled sometimes or just forget.

It’s a good practice to be grateful by default because the reality is that we are where we are thanks to millions of people who have gone before us.

I am only able to live in this apartment thanks to the hard work of thousands of people who have built this building, installed sewage.

That I am able to exist at all is a complete miracle.

We all have millions of ancestors, most of them had much more difficult lives and sacrificed so much so that I can exist and write this in this moment.

It’s reality, but it’s also an advantage to have a grateful mindset. Often being grateful can bring more things to be grateful.
