Exercise is so good for you.


 

I have going through phases of working quite intensely and I’ve been a bit stressed. I have found that exercise is the best stress reliever and performance enhancer.

I currently have two gym memberships in Beijing – one is near my home and one is by my office (it was free).

I know that exercise is so good for you and I am aiming to go everyday now.

Why?

We are not designed to be sitting at a desk and working and drinking alcohol. We are designed to be active. It has so many benefits it is like the ultimate drug that is natural and with no negative side effects. It can even change your gene expression

Overall, the data indicate that a single exercise bout of exercise caused marked changes in gene expression not only in exercising muscle, but also in non-exercising muscle and that exercise mainly promotes upregulation of gene expression. You can read more here.

So you can basically become a different person through exercise and it’s one of the fundamental and easiest ways you can improve yourself.

I love the feeling of just forgetting about everything for 30 minutes to 1 hour and doing intense exercise and then the feeling of relaxing after.

Currently I am doing weights, swimming or running everyday.

I am trying to do exercise every morning and then together with meditating and fasting until lunch my mornings are very productive.

I have found that actually you don’t need to exercise that much to get the benefits. Like everything is related to the 80:20 rule, you get 80% of the benefits in 20% of the time and after that you will see diminishing returns. So you can just go each day for a short amount of time and do it intensely and you will get great benefits

I have a morning routine now from 6-8am which is:

  • Meditating – 15 mins
  • Daily plan 15 mins
  • Exercise – 30 mins
  • Chinese – 30 mins
  • Writing – 30 mins

Its important to go regularly but also make sure to have time for rest to recover otherwise it can start to do some kind of damage or injury.
