“If you don’t stick to your values when they are being tested, they‘re not values, they‘re hobbies.” Jon Stewart.
Everyone says that a culture of a company is very important. What does your company stand for?
At China Admissions, we share the following:
Speed
Time is limited so we need to operate with a sense of urgency. In rowing, you are as fast as your slowest person. If everyone is fast apart from one person then we are slow, we all need to be fast, so it means telling someone if they are not doing stuff fast enough.
Learning
Why is learning important? Its a mindset of how we are looking to grow, like for example if you tell me it can be better, I am grateful because its an opportunity to grow. Also we are looking for new ways to learn and improve. If we are all doing it and learning from each other then its much better. It is kind of important because we are an education company. I think we all share this naturally Share some things I’ve learnt.
We Care
Life is short. Thats kind of the reason we are here, to help each other. Its much better if people are caring for others, it just makes life a lot better. And if we are all nice, its like we are a family, and we are safe. I just think it would be cool if we are doing stuff for each other and make each others lives better, thats true for our customers.
Focus and Simplify
Being concise, not just writing a really long paragraph when it can be said in a word.
People who send their CV if its so long I just automatically reject them, or if they talk too much on the phone and not to the point, because I think if we can’t get to the point then it can waste time. Its much better if we just get to the point and can save time and get shit done.
Excellence
We have to create a quality brand. How you do something is how you do everything. Apple, it has beautiful design, inside is also beautiful, it is not just beautiful on the outside where the customer can see. It’s the same with us, if you have an untidy room, or some parts of your life are not excellent, it will impact the other parts of your life. Also our company work. The little things we do matter. We need to have a high standard of excellence in what we do. Then everyone knows that we are a quality company, and our brand means something. Personal brand too. Eg., no spelling mistakes. Imagine if everything is really good. So I encourage you all to have high standards too.
Trade offs
When you are choosing values you are making tradeoffs. You can’t have everything. You can’t be fast, cheap, and excellent, you have to choose two. Maybe if you choose two then the third can come later.
It means we might be taking time out to help each other.
We are high quality and fast. We are the best, that comes at a cost of our own personal time, and sacrifice, and financial cost.
We are fast, and it might mean we make some mistakes, but thats fine because we can fix them. We have excellence as a value and we strive for excellence, and if we fall short we fix it fast.
We work pretty hard because we want to have amazing results. But also smart because we focus on the most important and we simplify. But it is not easy. We are not the kind of people who want to sleep on the beach. It could be a comfortable business, we could have a comfortable life, but no, we want more. We want to grow and achieve excellence.
