I strongly believe we are going through a societal shift, and we need to help more people to be great as part of our species evolution.
Here are some thoughts on that:
- What you focus on creates your future.
- You always have a choice.
- You have to have a great vision for your future
- Think bigger than you do already. One of the biggest realisations I’ve had is that many of the greatest people in history are no better than you. They are not made of different material to you.
- You have to become completely financially independent to have the maximum impact in the world, so you can help to shape it.
- Precision of language is important.
- “The path to greatness requires you to be uncomfortable” – now lets’ break down this phrase.
Newspeak is prevalent in our society.
In 1984, by George Orwell, there is a language called Newspeak.
Orwell thought carefully about the power of language. Newspeak, the invented language of the novel, is specifically designed to control the thought process via a limited vocabulary and a system of brutal simplification that prevents complex thought or the expression of any concept not in line with the totalitarian government’s orthodoxy.
Some examples are here.
There are a whole load of words that people use in everyday life.
– Happiness
– Excellence
– Goals
– Greatness
– Love
Many of these words and concepts have multiple meanings and interpretations depending on who you ask, and many disagreements and problems come from not having the same agreement of the definitions of words
“The path to greatness requires you to be uncomfortable”
Here’s what it means to me:
Comfort: a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint
Greatness: excellence in fulfilling your potential
Eudaimonia: a state of human flourishing – developing yourself to the best of your abilities
Your Path to Greatness is Uncomfortable
In order to be great, you have to be uncomfortable.
Is it possible to be great and be comfortable at the same time? In some ways comfort is the enemy of greatness.
The only way to achieve greatness is that you have to have a great vision for your future, and it has to come from your higher you.
In order to achieve this great vision, you have to evolve, some part of you has to die, some part of you has to grow.
Discomfort as a Signal?
Being uncomfortable might not just be hurdle—it could be a signal. If it scares you, it may be worth chasing.
What are some things that make you feel uncomfortable? It’s worth asking this question as an exercise.
Just commit and go for it
Have the confidence that you can do it and overcome the issues on the way. Put your eggs in that basket, and have the faith to burn the boats so there is no retreat. Be willing for failure to be one possibility, but focus on the path forward.
