Challenges for Students
Some students are finding it hard to take IELTS, or TOEFL. Therefore many students when applying to Chinese universities are not taking English tests.
There are some solutions like Duolingo and Tracktest.
We introduced the “International English Test” which is a test with an online interviewer, and online test which we built with the help of English exam makers.
However we need to try to automate the live online interview part so we can make the test more streamlined and lower the cost.
What we need
We need a way to assess candidates English level. The other option is the Duolingo test, but that does not show the video of the student. However, an automated solution like Duolingo is clearly the way forward and this kind of model will replace the traditional IELTS and TOEFL English tests in the future because it is more efficient.
However I think it needs a hybrid test – that is like TOEFL and IELTS but more automated and online.
Solutions
It’s possible to do it with an live English examiner, on Zoom, or Skype but is there an automated one? That would bring the price down a lot more, and mean that students can take the whole test in one sitting.
Is there a good platform that you can arrange English interview tests? So you can send the student to that platform, and it can ask some questions and then you can watch the videos later?
We want to be able to have more control over the questions and the test, and have access to it.
Automated Hiring Platforms is a booming market
There are many solutions for automated online interviews for hiring.
Eg.,

– Hirevue
Many more here.
But they are more geared as a SAAS model, and everything is quite fixed towards that and the pricing and features is too much for our needs.
There are no online automated English test platforms to our needs.
