TDLR: publish great content consistently.
A blog is made up of blog posts. A blog is only as good as the blog posts. So the most important question to ask is: “How do you write a great blog post?”. I wrote about that here.
I’ve been writing this blog since 16th May 2021. My first post was “Why am I writing?“, I wrote a few other blog posts, and then in 26th July I started writing daily. I’ve now written a total of 105 blog posts.
This is my total traffic growth so fast:
What is the purpose of the blog?
This blog is basically a place for me to write down my thoughts and experiences in order to become better. Whilst I’m writing about topics I’m also learning new things and writing about them in my own words helps me to understand them more deeply.
So far, after writing 105 blog posts, I find that I’ve had a lot of benefits in how I think about things. I’ve definitely become a higher quality thinker especially in those topics I’ve been writing about, but not only those topics.
I also have a near endless stream of articles that I’m interested to write about. I often find myself during the day coming up with interesting ideas I want to writer
Who is your target reader?
I don’t have a target reader right now.
I want to create a great blog
I want to improve the blog and make it much better. I feel like the quality can be a lot better and it can be more useful to other people so I’m looking at how I can create a great blog. What’s the point in doing something to an average level.
I’ve seen before that there are so many benefits to being really really good. Most people are average (by definition), and they receive average returns (by definition), but the top 10% receive much more returns, and the top 1% is much greater, but most of the returns are going to the very very best 0.1%. It is really worth being in that 0.1% and being excellent.
Create great content that people will want to read
In order to do that I basically need to make better content. I am currently spending 30 minutes per day to write this blog, and I think it shows in the quality of the content. I need to spend more time doing it.
There is a saying you are not as good as the dream life that you can imagine, but as good as the lowest standards you can accept. I think it’s true that I need to have a higher barometer on the level of standards I can accept on my blog.
I love having the ideas, and sharing as many ideas as I can, and I find myself sometimes getting bored by the small details. This is something that I need to deal with in order to make the content quality better.
There are a few ways I can improve the quality of the articles. I could hire someone to help me . I would prefer to do that when I start seeing returns from the blog. I will use any returns I get to reinvest back into the blog to make it better.
Quality Vs Quantity
I think the main way I can improve the blog is to post less frequently but higher quality. In order to do that I am going to post every two days instead of every day. That means that each article can be twice as long and it can give me more time to make edits. I will schedule new articles for the next month, and then start editing articles and improving them before they are released. I think by spending two sessions on each article I can substantially improve the quality of the content.
However on the other hand I do want to keep writing daily. I think its important to do that! I think I just need to have a higher standard of quality in order to do both. Maybe by writing shorter articles, or by spending more time on it.
I wrote an article about Quality Vs Quantity here.
That is the battle
We have a limited amount of time in the day. We want to achieve so much? How do we do really high quality work?
I also want to have some kind of standard for the quality of each article. I want to make sure that it reaches that standard before posting it.
It also means that you can focus your time more easily on the key parts of the funnel that you are spending time on. This can enable each part to be better, and the overall blog can be much better:
– Ideation – coming up with lots of interesting ideas for future articles
– Researching the article
– Writing a first a draft of the article
– Re-writing / editing / getting feedback
– Finishing touches – adding images, SEO description etc.,
– Publishing
I want to start seeing returns on my blog too. I think that will motivate me to improve. Getting some feedback from people and attracting attention will push me to keep developing in that direction.
