I am currently learning three skills that fascinate me:
- How to write well
- History
- How to build construction projects
How to write well
I am learning how to write well because I believe it is an essential skill. Being able to communicate effectively can impact every area of your life, and writing is the foundation of communication. Being a better writer means you can communicate in video format, in short form, and in spoken calls.
All of the greats, such as Benjamin Franklin, Winston Churchill, Napoleon, Julius Caesar, and many more that you wouldn’t expect, all learnt how to communicate by being writers and practiced it voraciously throughout their lives.
There is a course I have created for myself to be a better writer, and that is an AI mastery course. It uses the power of analysing the best texts in history, and then performing exercises to rewrite those texts in other forms and other areas. The power comes from just by working with these texts, they become a part of you. You subconsciously pick up the tools and rhythm, of these great texts and you start to use these in your own texts.
There are multiple aspects of being a great writer. Descriptiveness, emotion, engagement, persuasion, clarity, are all some angles that make these texts great. For these reasons the course studies a variety of the greatest writers and texts from the past.
The advantage of combining these with AI is that AI is the tutor and coach. It gives you these exercises and personalises the lessons to you, adapting to your style, and recording your preferences and progress.
The powerful aspect of this is that it is you learning by doing, by writing, rather than AI giving you the lessons, although it is a helpful coach.
After doing these exercises for just two days, I have found a huge improvement and power in my ability to write and communicate with people. I feel I am now armed with something that I never had before, and that I can put to use. which has given me an added confidence, competence, and enjoyment of communication.
There is a reason for the saying: “The pen is mightier than the sword.”
History
I will learn about history, and I will write about it.
History is essential to understand, if you want to have any kind of persuasiveness, opinion or influence in modern affairs.
It also gives a perspective that enables you to see the present, which is essentially just the unfolding of history in slow motion, much more clearly.
What kind of history am I interested in?
I would like to go wide, and go deep
- The English speaking people, and related histories
- History of conflict, because that is the realisation, and competition of power
- Europe
- Other cultures, and how they think
- Other complicated scenarios and eras that were similar to today
I believe there are more fascinating stories from history than you can ever imagine. There are an unlimited number of stories, and an unlimited number of angles of which to view it. None of those are complete. There are an unlimited number of lessons to learn that can be applicable for the future.
Excited to start digging.
How to build construction projects
I have lived for much of my life in China and now UAE at a time of massive construction. I am fascinated to understand how construction projects are managed because I think it can give applicable skills for other areas of life. I am reading books on these topics.
