Before 2023, if someone was looking for jobs in China I would have suggested Linkedin. Now that it has effectively closed in China and companies are not able to post positions in China, there is a gap in the market.
Here are the 8 Ways to Find Jobs in China
- Linkedin – althought it has closed in China, people are still using it as a social network. You can still find companies and directly message hiring managers.
- Direct Reachout – you can also research a list of companies and directly email them your application.
- BOSS – BOSS App is one of the best apps in China. It’s in Chinese and targeting the Chinese market, but it’s one of the best ways to find jobs. As a foreigner, you can stand out on that platform.
- Multiple Platforms, Eg., Thebeijinger, SmartShanghai. There are also a number of smaller job platforms that you can search in each city. Thebeijinger and SmartShanghai are some. You can search on google for more. It can be effective to search on all these platforms for opportunities.
- Wechat Groups – this is one effective strategy. You prepare your CV, then you ask friends to invite you to. industry related wechat groups. Share your CV and a paragraph or two introducing yourself and what you’re looking for. I know a few people who found jobs this way.
- Offline Events –ย sometimes the best way to find jobs is to meet a lot of people and go to events. If you know which industry you are interested in, it can be good to go industry related events and get to know people. Many of the job opportunities are not actually posted and instead go to people in their network. Thats why it’s a good idea to get in their network.
- Professors – if you have studied or are studying in China, then professors are a great resource. They often have a wide network and know companies who are looking for talent. They also want to help you succeed. Approach some of your professors to ask them if they have any advice or know of any opportunities for you.
- Friends. You can also reach out to friends to ask their advice.
Here are some quick tips:
- Whatever you do, make sure to familiarise yourself with the regulations. As a student you would need permission to work.
