Just like successful sportsmen visualise the outcome they want, it’s a good idea to visualise what you want to happen. Can you imagine yourself with 100,000 followers, and tweeting a few times a day, about a certain topic? This then comes onto the following questions.
3) What do you want to tweet about?
This is important to consider.
What makes you unique?
Will you just be posting about the same things as other people or is there something noteworthy about you that others can find interesting.
What can people expect when they follow you?
If it’s random topics all over the place, from cats, golf, and israel, for example, then it’s unlikely others many are going to have the same interests as you. Whenever you post about golf, then those who like cats are not going to be interested. If you focus on cats only, or better yet, some specific pun about cats such as cute cat comedy memes, then people who find that interesting are going to follow you. It’s a good idea to niche down.
What interests you?
I think it’s also important to consider what interests you. If you are unique in a certain way but that topic is not interesting to you, then you will find it hard to continually engage with that topic. If it’s something you are passionate about, you will be able to keep doing it and can be great at it.
For me, for example, I find a topic that interests me is sharing what I’m learning about. I’m learning about how to improve and be a better person. So I think this is a topic that I can make unlimited content about, making the content is also a way for me to learn, and it can also be helpful for others. I am going to share about questions I have and topics and books I’m studying. Following my natural curiosity.
How to be the best in the world at this topic?
You can really grow by being the best in the world at this topic. If you are the best in the world at this topic, then nobody can beat you. I think that comes to practice, and being yourself and authentic. Nobody can be better at being you then you can. It’s also a matter of learning from others, what are the strategies that work, and continual practice and improvement.
How to grow a twitter following
Now you know what it is that you want and why, now you can start with the strategies.
1) Have a great profile
2) Post frequently – 3-5 posts a day, and 1 thread a week. Consistency is important to grow.
3) Comment on other people – at the start, not many people are following you. You can make interesting comments on other profiles.
4) Post about other people, @ them, and encourage retweets.
5) Post about trending topics and use hashtags
6) Post a variety of topics
7) Follow people in your niche
8) Plan and schedule your tweets – so it’s not a huge timesuck.
9) Make great tweets – give value
