According to Global Admissions COVID tracker China is the only country actively banning students with no idea about when can students can go to China.
Currently, only a few international students are able to go to China – those studying at Tianjin Juilliard, NYU Shanghai (and here), some Schwarzman Scholarship students, South Korean students, and 30 Nicaraguan scholarship holders (Last updated Mar 10, 2022).
On 14th March – there has been some news that some students will be able to return to China with reports of a number of Thai students being able to return. These needs seem to be determined by the students’ majors (example: medical students and other students who need in-person courses to graduate). This might be a sign of things opening up.
However it will be balanced by China’s domestic COVID situation which has recently seen the largest number of cases since the outbreak in Wuhan and cities being shut down.
As the tsunami of Omicron variant continues to rage across the world, China has taken reasonable and necessary prevention and control measures aimed at protecting the health and safety of Chinese citizens, foreign nationals in China as well as a small number of international students coming to China. We will consider in a coordinated manner the matter of foreign students returning to their classes in China, actively explore feasible options and gradually arrange for those with the need to return in an orderly fashion. This is welcome news to the thousands of students who are waiting eagerly to return. We do not know which students will be able to return but students from following countries have been given a mention of priority: Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Pakistan, Singapore, and India.,
