Meet Noah Kogan. There is a lot to learn from Noah Kogan, he is founder of AppSumo, has created a popular Youtube channel. I recently watched an interview, with Ryan Daniel Moran. I highly recommend watching the full version. I learnt three main things from Noah Kagan:
1> The importance of managing your energy.
He mentions in the interview that he read The power of full engagement. This is an interesting book that says it is more important to manage your energy rather than your time. There are many lessons in the book, but one of the main ones I got is the importance of following your energy. Together with Buy Back Your Time.
– Connect to your energy. Learn about what you feel energised and what depletes your energy.
– Listen to what activities give you more energy and do more of those
– Other interests, relationships, and what you feel exciting, is something that can energise you.
– It is important to minimise, delegate, or not do activities that you feel depleted by
2> Goals list.
Setting goals is one of the most important things that successful people do that other not successful people don’t do. Many studies have found a huge difference in achievement between people who have goals and those who don’t. He introduces his goal setting method, where he makes a list of what he wants to do in a year, what excites him, and looks at multiple areas. He then reviews this each day.
I realised that I have been focused too heavily on work related goals, not letting myselfenjoy life until I have accomplished certain goals, and neglecting fun activities and things that really interest and excite me. Travel, learning, writing, relationships and other hobbies, are important, and by instead of focusing 100% on work, but focusing on my life and myself too and work more holistically, I am much more energised, work becomes easier and more enjoyable and I have more energy. Ideas for work come while doing other activities.
3> Learning from the older generation.
We are living in an aging population. The number of retirees is growing rapidly.
This is a challenge for healthcare and society, but it’s also a huge opportunity to learn lessons from the older generation and become smarter. There is a huge amount of value and wisdom in the retired. We can learn their life lessons and they can also give us advice and help.
Noah Kagan makes a series of Youtube interviews asking older wealthy people their stories.
As the costs of university education increases, this growing resource of wisdom and experience in the older generation is something that we, as a society can use with innovative education models. This might be online education models. We can also consider those who are in our communities and in already in our lives.
